Funding – Community Grants
Community Grants are widely advertised and are offered through a number sources including government programs, Local Councils, large corporations and philanthropic organisations.
Submissions must be made against a strict set of criteria and with a specific goal or project in mind. Grants tend to be for one-off projects and vary widely in the amount of funds available.
Some examples of recent grant submissions made by the Society include:
Community Benefit SA is a State Government program which allocates money to the community for one off projects that assist non government community service agencies to improve the well being, quality of life, community participation and life management skills of disadvantaged individuals, families and communities.
DSSSA put in a submission to purchase a new colour photocopier and was successful in attaining partial funding.
The Telstra Foundation was established by Telstra in 2002 and is viewed as a giving program devoted to enriching the lives of Australian children and young people and the communities in which they live. The Foundation has 2 main programs:
- Telstra Foundation Community Development Fund
- Telstra’s Kids Fund providing one-off (small) grants to not for profit organisations providing services for children of Telstra employees.
Not long after the Foundation was established the Society applied to the Kids Fund and was successful in attaining funding for play equipment to be used in our Early Intervention program.
More recently the Society put in a submission to the Community Development Fund and was successful in attaining funding for an Early Intervention Speech and Language project to be undertaken over a period of 2 years.
The project, known as the ‘Chatter Challenge’ will enable the Society to develop and implement speech and language programs that will be at the ‘cutting edge’ of early intervention for babies, infants, toddlers and preschoolers with Down syndrome.
Morialta Trust is a philanthropic organisation that offers general grants for incorporated welfare and community organisations that assist disadvantaged children and young people.
The Trust has an office in Adelaide but does not have a website link for more information.
The Society was successful in securing a grant from the Morialta Trust to renovate the kitchen area utilised by the Life Education program.
The Adelaide Bank Charitable Foundation was the source of funding for new kitchen furniture following the renovations.
The Ian Potter Foundation (IPF) is one of Australia's largest private philanthropic foundations.
IPF makes grants for general charitable purposes in Australia with areas of interest including the arts, education, environment and conservation, health, social welfare, science and medical research.
DSSSA was successful in attaining a grant to upgrade our website which was done in conjunction with BMD Web Site Developers.
