Funding – Sponsorship

Another important source of funding for the Society is sponsorship, which has been forthcoming from a variety of sources for a variety of purposes over the years.

Sponsorship amounts can be large or small and for an event (e.g. Family Fun Day) or for an individual (e.g. enable an individual to attend a camp or participate in the Life Education program who wouldn’t otherwise be able to do so). If you or an organisation you know are in a position to be able to offer sponsorship monies to the Society please contact the Executive Director to discuss existing opportunities.

Examples of how the Society has benefited from sponsorship in recent years include:

Club Slick

The 9th World Down Syndrome Congress was held in Vancouver, Canada in 2006 and we were able to put generous sponsorship from the City of Burnside towards the costs of sending members of Club Slick to Vancouver to perform. The Office for Disability and Client Services (ODAC) matched the City of Burnside’s sponsorship.

Sponsorship from Raine and Horne real estate enabled Club Slick to purchase a sound system to use at Club slick functions.

Family Fun Day

The Society holds a Family Fun Day in November each year and we have been fortunate to have sponsorship support for this event in some years.

Sponsors have included Adelaide Correctional Facility and Adelaide Lions Club.

Promoting Awareness in the Community

Design Conscience is an initiative of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) that helps to promote the valuable services provided to South Australians by charities. Local designers donate their time and, in conjunction with print production companies, produce bus shelter posters for selected charities.

In 2004 DSSSA, along with Barkuma Inc and the AIDS Council of SA, were the charities nominated by AGDA to benefit from this poster campaign

We were very pleased with our “Get Down” poster (depicted on this website) that was designed by AGDA professional member Jodie Smith of SHE Creative Pty Ltd.

Thanks to the valuable support of AGDA sponsors two of these posters were rotated through numerous Adshel bus shelters in and around Adelaide and the metropolitan area for a period of 12 months. Advertising in positions as prominent as North Tce and outside the Hilton Hotel is not something the Society (or indeed any of the selected charities) would have been able to afford to do and we were extremely pleased to have been selected to participate in such a great initiative.
