Background
In August 2002 a group of young people starred in the Society’s Slick Rock ‘n’ Roll Show & Dance. These performers had committed to rehearsals every Sunday afternoon for 6 months and in that time had learnt to jive and then learnt their roles for the show. The show was a huge hit but there was one burning question on everyone’s lips.
‘What are we going to do now the show is over?’
Members (individuals and their families) were looking for more opportunities for young people to socialise and develop skills that would enable them to participate in a range of community activities. Getting together regularly to learn to jive had been popular and with the intent of involving as many young people as possible in its development, Club Slick was launched in October 2002.
Almost 5 years on and Club Slick is going from strength to strength with numbers at the monthly dance nights averaging around 150 and putting on a Rock ‘n’ Roll show has become an eagerly anticipated annual event. Club Slick also has a Demonstration Team which plays a significant role in promoting the Club. (refer to the Community Relations page for more information).
