Work Education
The Society has the ability to offer a limited number of Work Education/Experience placements with the program catering for teenagers still at school and adults who have left school. To assist with running costs, participants are charged fees.
To be eligible for the program individuals must be members of the Society and not be in paid employment.
A focus of the Work Education program is for participants to develop an understanding of acceptable work ethic and behaviour in the workplace. Additionally, the program follows the standard workplace principles for performance appraisal and/ or poor performance procedures.
The participant is expected to demonstrate improved work performance and regulation of behaviour in this workplace. This includes punctuality, dress code, self management, working as a team, appropriate social interactions and the safety of themselves and others.
A big challenge for the workers is to assess their own performance, which is a very difficult skill to learn, but is essential for successful open or supported employment.
Placement in the program is for 12 months with on-going placement subject to waiting lists.
Examples of tasks carried out include:
- Mailouts
- Magazine collation
- Preparation of Training and Development Kits and/or resources
- Shredding and appropriate rubbish management
- General office
We are always looking for more opportunities for our participants.
